Our Story
Heritage Cattle Co. … A Family Affair
Although Heritage Cattle Co. is a new name in the seedstock business we have a “heritage” in the purebred cattle and agribusiness industries. The services and cattle offered by Heritage Cattle Co. is backed by the talent and knowledge of John and Johanna Gomez, and Arlin Nelson.
The Gomezes of Buhl, Idaho, have many years of agribusiness and purebred cattle experience. John has one of the largest custom harvesting businesses in the country providing thousands of tons of feed to the nation’s largest and fastest dairy belts in the world. Johanna, formerly Johanna Nelson, has a long history with polled Hereford cattle starting with her involvement as a junior member. Her kids — Brice, Sallie and Bailey — are following in her footsteps as their own junior Hereford and Angus involvement continues to grow. Johanna’s family exhibited the national champion polled female in 1991 in Jackson, Miss.
Arlin Nelson, Johanna’s brother, is no stranger to the purebred polled Hereford business. He as worked at several of the most progressive purebred cattle herds helping them prepare cattle for show and sale, including John E Rice Sons Herefords, Sunrise Herefords and Angus, and LaGrand Angus and Hereford Ranch. Arlin has also worked abroad in Argentina.
Together they could combine our talents and develop a premier seedstock operation providing high-quality cattle to commercial and purebred producers as well as custom-fitting services.
In November 2005 with the purchase of an acreage east of Indianapolis in Milton, we expanded our marketing area.
